Cosmetology

Cosmetology provides personal beauty services to clients in styling, shaping, conditioning, lightening, coloring, permanent waving, facials and manicures. It is very rewarding to the stylist to help clients look and feel their best.

Course Description:

Cosmetology is a 2,ooo actual clock hour course at the Wyoming County Career and Technical Center. It is a twenty-four month course for senior high school students and a twenty month course for adult students. The course will require the student to learn a variety of services related to the care of the hair, skin and nails.

Entrance Requirements:

The State of West Virginia Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists requires 2,000 clock hours in the required curriculum prior to the state examination for your cosmetology licenses. The Cosmetology Department requires a minimum of 75% or better average in the required subjects. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age; either a senior high or a post graduate student and have a 12th grade education or general education diploma. Applicants must complete the necessary registration paper.

Facials, Manicures, Pedicures, Styling, Eyebrow arching, Scalp treatments, Salon management, Make-up application, Changing chemical structure of hair and Sculptured and artificial nail application

Job Opportunities:

Most cosmetologists work as a stylist in salons. However there are many careers in other areas such as: Platform artist at trade shows and conventions, Educator/school owner, Make-up artist for photo/video shoots, Nail technician, Skin Care Specialist/Esthetician, Stylist on a cruise ship and Spa manager
